(Columbus) The Columbus Fire Department was able to rescue a dog that had fallen down a septic tank Thursday night. The agency was called to 1022 North Lewis Street just after 9pm.
The canine had fallen down the 15-foot tank that was located in the back of the residence underneath a deck. The tank had been emptied earlier that day and was being serviced. The fire department entered the confined space and rescued the dog with ropes and a harness.
After the pup was lifted out, it was alert and appeared uninjured. The department cleared the scene around 12am.
Deputy Chief Jerrod Fox says everyone did an awesome job on this call. He adds that they communicated the best way to rescue the dog and safely completed all the confined space checks and permits.
The deputy chief noted that when the firefighter reached the bottom of the tank, he was able to harness the very cooperative dog for rescue. Fox says the department’s work on this rescue made him proud.
