(COLUMBUS) The Columbus Fire Department is upgrading its safety equipment thanks to two new community grants totaling more than $4,000.
The department received a $2,000 Rewarding Responders Grant from the We Energies Foundation and a $2,350 Operation Round Up Grant from the Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative.
The funding was used to purchase new Sensit Gold G2 gas detection meters, which are now installed in the departmentโs first-out engines serving both city and rural areas. The multi-gas meters can detect carbon monoxide, propane, and natural gas leaks and measure oxygen levels to help firefighters monitor potentially dangerous conditions.
โThese updated meters will help us quickly locate leaks and operate safely in confined spaces,โ the department said in a statement. โWeโre grateful for the continued support from both Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative and the We Energies Foundation.โ
The new equipment will enhance safety for both firefighters and residents by providing faster, more accurate readings during emergency calls.
