Columbus Farmer Appointed to National Soybean Board by U.S. Agriculture Secretary

(COLUMBUS) A Columbus soybean farmer will help shape how millions of dollars are invested to support growers across the country.

Danny Brisky of Columbus has been appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to serve on the United Soybean Board. He is one of 42 farmers nationwide selected for a three-year term that begins immediately.

The farmer-led board directs investments from the national soybean checkoff โ€” funds collected from soybean sales โ€” into research, market development and promotion efforts designed to strengthen demand and improve profitability for farmers.

The United Soybean Board is made up of 77 farmer-directors representing 29 soybean-producing states, along with two regional at-large seats. Each year, about one-third of the board is appointed by the agriculture secretary from nominees submitted by state soybean boards.

Through the soybean checkoff program, farmers contribute one-half of one percent of the market value of each bushel sold. Those dollars support research in areas such as animal nutrition, human food products, industrial uses, sustainability and expanding international markets.

Briskyโ€™s appointment gives Wisconsin, and Columbus in particular, a voice in national decisions that affect soybean growers both locally and across the country.
