(Columbus) The Columbus Council recently approved making March 20th Fred Dartt Day. The request came from the city’s fire department to recognize Dartt who had served with the agency for 51 years.
“Included with that, they would like to have any member that hits 50 years of service would get one day of recognition from the City of Columbus, a proclamation, and this award would be a combined service of 50 years in the fire service,” says Fire Chief Scott Hazeltine.
Dartt began as a volunteer firefighter in 1963 and later served as the assistant chief for 13 years before serving as chief from 1988 to 2001.
