Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputy Squad Car Involved In Two-Vehicle Accident

(Poynette) A Columbia County Sheriff’s Office squad car was involved in a two-vehicle crash over the weekend. The deputy was responding to a call for backup for a suspicious person report in the village of Poynette Saturday around 4:50pm.

With their lights and sirens activated, the deputy approached an intersection on Meek Road in the township of Arlington. A preliminary investigation shows that the squad car approached a stop sign and failed to see the other vehicle approaching.

The other motorist did not have a stop sign. Authorities say the deputy entered the intersection and was struck by the other driver. They note that the impact was significant, and the squad car rolled several times.

Both the deputy and the other driver were transported to a local hospital with suspected non-life-threatening injuries. The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the crash.
