Columbia County Setting Up Cooling Shelters

(Columbus) With the high heat expected throughout the area in the coming days, Columbia County officials have established a number of cooling shelters for the public. A few of the locations include the Columbus Community Center, the Columbus Public Library, the Columbia County Humane Society, the Jane Morgan Memorial Library in Cambria, Fall River Village Hall, Randolph Village Hall, and Randolphโ€™s Hutchinson Memorial Library.

Emergency Management officials with Columbia County say they are under a โ€œheat watchโ€ for Wednesday and Thursday.

They also suggest calling 911 if someone you know is showing symptoms of heat stroke. Symptoms can include skin temperature of 103-degrees, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or loss of consciousness. Those with heat exhaustion may experience heavy sweating or muscle cramps and it is recommended you move to a cool place, take a cool bath, and drink water.
