Columbia County Authorities Arrest 22 For OWI Over Memorial Day Weekend

(Columbia County) The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was busy over the Memorial Day weekend. The agency arrested 22 people for Operating While Intoxicated over the course of the extended holiday weekend.

There were 20 arrests for OWI First Offense, one for Third Offense, and a Madison man was taken into custody for his Seventh Offense. Police say Michael Meyer was driving a golf cart down a road and threw a beer bottle in a ditch. The 39-year-old also reportedly urinated on the side of the road.

A sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and conducted an OWI investigation. Sheriff Roger Brandner thanked all citizens who called in several driving complaints around the county that led to these arrests. He says without their help these individuals would have continued to drive on our roads and possibly hurt or kill an innocent person.
