Chronic Wasting Disease Response Meeting For Green Lake County Planned

(Green Lake) The Green Lake County Deer Advisory Council and DNR will hold a public information meeting on the detection and response plan to Chronic Wasting Disease. It was found in a dead deer in the Town of Brooklyn in May. The meeting will be held at the American Legion Post at 518 Water Street in Green Lake on August 31st at 6pm. The DNR is hoping people can adopt and donate to install Chronic Wasting Disease collection dumpsters. DNR Wildlife Health Conservation Specialist Amanda Kamps says hunters can dispose of that carcass waste instead of having remains placed on the landscape to decompose naturally because that could be one of the transmission pathways of the disease. The DNR is also seeking assistance sampling harvested deer during upcoming seasons and is asking landowners to report sick deer. Additional free surveillance permits will be available to willing landowners within a targeted 5-mile local area after the hunting seasons. More information about the programs can be found at the DNR website at DNR-dot-WI-dot-Gov.
