(Addison) Major injuries were avoided when a car collided with a train in the town of Addison Tuesday morning. Washington County deputies responded to the Highway DW crossing near Ohio Road around 5:40am.
Upon arrival, authorities found the sole occupant of the involved vehicle sitting roadside. Sheriff personnel and bystanders provided medical treatment until Allenton Fire and Rescue arrived on scene. A witness told authorities they were stopped at the crossing when they observed a vehicle approach from behind at high speeds.
To prevent a rear-end collision, the driver of the involved vehicle made an evasive right turn. The vehicle continued east into the gravel ditch and struck one of the last cars of the northbound train.
Authorities say dense fog was still an issue at the time but the crash was avoidable if the driver had reduced their speeds. The induvial involved was taken to the hospital where he was reported to be in stable condition.
