Busy Fourth Of July Weekend For Watertown Police

(Watertown) It was a busy Fourth of July weekend for the Watertown Police Department. The agency received 540 calls for service between 4pm on June 30th and 7am on July 5th. That includes emergency and non-emergency phone calls.

There were also 36 firework complaints and officers issued nine verbal warnings, two written warnings, and issued nine citations. Watertown Police officials say those citations cost $376 for possessing illegal fireworks.

There were six drug arrests and one of the individuals taken into custody was also in possession of a concealed firearm. One-hundred-and-fifty-nine (159) traffic stops were conducted by Watertown police officers. Seven resulted in speeding citations and four for OWI arrests. Officers also issued a combination of 82 verbal warnings, written warnings, and correction notices.

The department also received 48 accidental 911 calls during the 111-hour period. Authorities urge citizens to stay on the line and answer all of the dispatcher’s questions. They note that otherwise, a lot of time is spent by officers following up to make sure everything is alright.
