The Beaver Dam Bowling teams had a monumental day on Sunday at Hering’s Fish Bowl in Lake Mills. Both the girls and the boys teams needed a good day to keep their State Tournament hopes intact, and they did just that!
The boys took on Watertown in the first match with the winner taking control of the District 6 lead. Senior Tyler Bender had a breakout performance filling 13 out of 14 frames. Down to the last two games, game 8 was a struggle for both teams and the Beavers were fortunate to win with a Watertown open in the tenth frame winning 165-160. With a winner take all game 9, freshman Charlie Scholz entered the match for the first time, ice cold, and fired two strikes to force the bottom of the lineup to perform. Junior Garrett Boettcher struck in the 9th for Beaver Dam as Watertown struck out in the tenth forcing senior Adam Paul to double. Paul threw 2 perfect shots to win the match and secure the lone spot atop the district for Beaver Dam. The Beaver boys won the second match 7-2 against the Columbus based mixed team. Watertown fell to Oconomowoc giving the Beavers a 2 game lead against both Watertown and Oconomowoc.
The Beaver girls took care of business match 1 with a 7-2 match win over Lakeside Lutheran. Match two versus district leader Watertown was essentially an elimination match. The girls cruised to victory winning the first five games to take the match 5-4. Senior Sophia Rudie hammered a clean set with 9 strikes to put the Beavers in striking position for a State Tournament bid. Rudie’s performance on the day put her back in the lead in the individual standings. The girls need to win both their next two matches and hope Watertown goes winless to force a roll off for the district title and a State Tournament bid.
The season will conclude on Sunday 1/26 for both teams at Klicka’s Rock n’ Bowl in Jefferson. Go Beavers!
