(Beaver Dam) An upcoming event will shine a light on the importance of organ donation. Bee a Donor will be held at the Thelma Sadoff Art Center in Fond du Lac next month. Paul Osterholm, an organizer as well as a kidney and bone morrow donor, says every April donors and recipients come together to share their own stories and promote organ donation.
He says they have an amazing lineup of speakers whose lives have been touched by organ donation. Osterholm says one speaker is author Brenda Cortez. He says his own experiences with donating are detailed in Cortez’s book along with 24 other stories from around the country. He says she will be speaking at the event. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt will serve as MC.
During a recent Community Comment, Osterholm says there were a record number of kidney transplants last year in the United States with 24,669. He says every nine minutes in the U.S. someone is added to the transplant list and every 13 minutes someone passes away waiting for a life saving organ.
The Bee a Donor event begins at 10am and runs until noon on April 9th.
