Beavers Bounce Back With Win Over Milton

The Beaver Dam High School football team got back on the winning track Friday night with a 20-12 win over Milton (2-3, 1-2) at HH Derleth Field.

The teams were scoreless late into the first half when junior tailback Josiah Barnes rumbled in from two yards out to give the Golden Beavers the 7-0 lead with just 2:21 left in the 2nd quarter.   BDHS went up 13-0 mid-way through the 3rd quarter when QB Eli Bryant hit Jeff Freund down the left sideline on a 42 yard score.    

Milton got on the scoreboard with :39 left in the 3rd as Jordan Bundy carried the pile into the end zone for a two yard score.  The extra point was blocked by Gavin Vitense to keep the lead at seven points 13-6.   Beaver Dam answered right back as Barnes went around the left side 28 yards for a touchdown to push the lead to 20-6.  The Red Hawks threw the counter-punch as QB Tyler Zeal ran in from seven yards out with 6:19 left in the 4th.  Milton went for two, down 20-12 but Boston Damon knocked away the fade pass to the right corner.  The Golden Beavers got the ball back and ran out the clock with the big play being Bryant to Kyler Keel for a game ending 1st down with less than two minutes to play.

Barnes carried the ball 21 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns.  Bryant had another efficient day through the air completing 8 of 11 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.  Keel grabbed four passes for 52 yards.   Milton QB Tyler Zeal ran 12 times for 46 yards and a TD.  He also threw for 136 yards.

The Beavers outgained Milton 334-245 on the night.  The Beaver Dam defense forced a pair of Red Hawk turnovers and got into their backfield all night long.
