(Beaver Dam) Beaver Dam’s Director of Administration has resigned. Zak Bloom, who was hired in January of 2020, is leaving to take a job in the private sector. Mayor Becky Glewen recommended to the city’s Administrative Committee Monday night that the recruitment firm GovHR USA be hired at a cost of $22,500 to find his replacement. No vote was taken because there was only five minutes left in the meeting and Chair Jaci Shelton did not feel that was enough time to adequately address the matter. A special meeting will be held on Wednesday. This is the third resignation in the important administrative post since April of 2019. John Somers has been tabbed to serve in an interim role, having previously spent 23 years in the position before he left. Somers previously served in an interim role prior to Bloom’s hiring. City officials will begin the process of discussing Bloom’s replacement on November 1. Bloom’s last day on the job is November 5. Somers is expected to start November 8, pending approval. The Beaver Dam Common Council last month approved a major restructuring of city government. Under the ordinance, a new position is created: city administrator, a role tasked with finance and personnel matters that is different. The position of mayor will transition from full-time to part-time. The salary of the mayor will be reduced by two-thirds, from $60-thousand dollars per year to $20-thousand dollars following the spring 2023 election.
