(Beaver Dam) A Beaver Dam woman was sentenced to one year in jail with work release privileges Tuesday for shooting her boyfriend in the groin. Tonya Diniz entered a no contest plea to an amended felony count of Second Degree Reckless Injury. A misdemeanor charge of Intentionally Pointing a Firearm at a Person was dismissed but read into the record. On April 14, Beaver Dam police were dispatched to an apartment building at 106 Lakecrest Drive at 9am. Officers found a 20-year-old male lying on an air mattress in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the groin. He told police that Diniz had shot him, adding that the two were not fighting and that he did not believe the act to be intentional. The victim later said Diniz was upset because she had found out he had been speaking to another woman but maintained that the shooting was not done purposefully. When questioned, Diniz said she shot her boyfriend after confronting him about texts he sent to another woman. The 28-year-old said she pointed the gun at his groin area and as she knelt on the bed it accidentally went off. Diniz was also placed on probation for three years.
