Beaver Dam Sets Spring Bulk Pickup Week

(BEAVER DAM) People in Beaver Dam who need to get rid of old furniture or other large items will get their chance the first full week of May.

City crews will pick up large items on each householdโ€™s regular garbage day from May 4 through May 8. Items must be at the curb by 6 a.m. and should not be set out more than a day in advance.

This pickup is meant for items that donโ€™t fit in a regular trash cart, like couches, mattresses, box springs or small sections of rolled carpet. Doors, windows, and countertops that one person can handle are also allowed.

But not everything left at the curb will be taken.

City officials say people should not put out recyclables such as plastic, cardboard, or metal. Extra household garbage in bags or boxes will also be left behind and could lead to a fine.

Some items are off-limits entirely. Appliances, tires, batteries and electronics wonโ€™t be picked up because they canโ€™t go into landfills. Building materials and wood also wonโ€™t be collected at the curb.

For those items, the city offers a bulk drop-off site twice a month at 640 S. Center St. Itโ€™s open the first Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and the third Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

City officials say the May pickup is one of two chances this year to set out large items, with the next collection scheduled for October.
