(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam School Board reviewed the district’s long-range facility master plan and process at their meeting this week. Architectural firm PRA and construction manager CG Schmidt updated the board by sharing details about the process and improvements that will benefit the community. The firm walked through the interior and exterior of Beaver Dam Middle School, Washington Elementary, and Wilson Elementary.
They verified existing reports and provided maintenance lists and current cost estimates with inflation factored in. Senior Project Manager for CG Schmidt Mike Dietrich details what was found in the middle school’s report.
“There are some urgent capital needs at Beaver Dam,” says Dietrich. “Most specifically, you know, revolves around the MEPs, which is mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. But then there’s the exterior upgrades too with the masonry, tuck pointing and repairs as well as roof replacement.”
Dietrich says the facility assessment aligns with the proposed pre-referendum and facility planning timeline and informs the capital improvement plan summary. Renovations and upgrades to Washington Elementary are also being considered. Nick Kent is with PRA.
“The building is somewhat tired,” says Kent. “We think about what some of those needs and opportunities are, parking access to the site, site organization, better playground facilities, more accessible playground facilities for students and for the community.”
Facility solutions, budget development, and community engagement are at the forefront of the planning process in the coming months. School Perceptions will be involved in a survey development process around February, and that survey will be sent to the community around May of next year.
PRA and CG Schmidt have previously partnered with the district for a renovation of Beaver Dam High School in 2016. That project provided $48.9-million-dollars in improvements including the remodel of a majority of the building.
