(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam School Board recently approved the formation of a boys’ co-op hockey team. Going into next school year, the current team has only nine players, including three goalies. Athletic Director Ryan Gerber made it clear that this co-op would not be to form a “super team,” like some other schools have done.
“I think there is a lot of other schools that see it as ‘hey, let’s try and get as many good players on the team as possible’,” says Gerber.
Schools that would be joining Beaver Dam include Wayland Academy, Randolph, Cambria, Waterloo, Columbus, Horicon, and Mayville. Gerber says creating the co-op is the right decision.
“This co-op would be to sustain the program as it is and build for the future.”
The Beaver Dam athletic director says that travelling for hockey is common and it comes down to where a player can get the most playing time and attention.
