BEAVER DAM, WI — Beaver Dam officials say the city has avoided the worst of Wednesday afternoon’s severe weather, but still saw scattered storm damage, downed lines, and power outages.
Beaver Dam Police Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson says crews were responding to multiple reports of downed trees, along with power lines and communication lines knocked down by the storm.
Johnson says there were no reports of injuries in the city. Two trees were reported to have fallen on houses, but officials did not believe the residents would be displaced.
“We’re actually doing pretty good compared to other areas in the county,” Johnson said during an interview with Daily Dodge. “We are thankful for that.”
Power outages were reported in parts of the city, including an area near Wayland Academy stretching toward the intersection of Highway 33 and Highway 151. Johnson says traffic lights were out at Park Avenue and University Avenue, as well as in the 800 block of Park Avenue.
Department of Public Works crews placed stop signs at those intersections, and Johnson says traffic was moving without major issues.
Alliant Energy was notified of the outages, but Johnson says crews were not able to provide a firm estimate for when power would be restored.
Drivers are asked to use caution, slow down around affected intersections, and watch for emergency crews, utility workers, and debris in the roadway.
