Beaver Dam Post 146 White Construction American Legion baseball is heading to the 19U AA State Tournament after rallying for nine runs in the top of the 7th to steal a 13-5 win over Waupun Post 210 on Sunday at the BDHS Diamond.
Post 146 scored three times in the top of the 1st with the help of three Waupun errors. Waupun scratched out a single run in the bottom of 2nd and then took a 4-3 lead with three more in the bottom of the 3rd inning, highlighted by a towering two run homer to left by Evan Sauer. Boston Damon slapped a singled to right field in the top of the 5th to even the score at 4-4. Waupun answered in the bottom of the 5th as Sauer singled home Emmett Hull to go back up 5-4. After a scoreless sixth, Post 146 exploded for nine runs in the top of the 7th to claim the Regional Championship.
At the plate for Beaver Dam, Jeff Freund was 4×5, with three doubles, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Jerek Westover went 3×4 with a pair of doubles, 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Brad Wendorf also had a double and two RBI for Post 146.
Evan Sauer led Post 210 going 2×3 with a two run homer and three RBI. Ethan Cunningham also went 2×3 with a triple and 2 RBI.
Boston Damon scattered five runs (four earned) and nine hits over six innings to pick up the victory. Jake Krueger gave up 9 runs (6 earned) and 11 hits over six and a third to get hung with the loss.
This is the 27th time Beaver Dam has qualified for the State American Legion Baseball Tournament in program history and have won six titles (1982, 1984, 1989, 2000, 2001, 2013)
Beaver Dam Post 146 (17-4) will face the host West Salem squad on Friday night at 7pm in their State Tournament opener. You can hear the game on 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam. Waupun’s season ends at 18-6.
