(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Memorial Day Ceremony will be Monday at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Oakwood Cemetery on Highway 33. This year’s guest speaker is retired Wisconsin Army National Guard Brigadier General Robyn Blader.
“When she graduated from law school, she became a [Judge Advocate General] officer attorney and she was also one of the first judges for the Department of Military Affairs in Madison,” Jeff Krakow with the Marine Corps League says, “then she got promoted to brigadier general and she was a general for three years until she recently retired. So we thought she’d be a great representative of not only someone from the military with 36 years of service but also a great role model.”
The service will include the reading of the names of area veterans who have passed away in the past year. Organizer Lois Levenhagen says a flyover is planned during the event.
“It’s… a moving moment when they fly over, and they try to do it just as we’re reading the names, it’s very meaningful.”
The Beaver Dam High School Marching Band and St Katherine Drexel Marching Band will be providing music. There will also be seating for about 100 but attendees can bring their own lawn chairs and blankets for additional seating. The Memorial Service will be broadcast live on WBEV 95.3 and video streamed at DailyDodge.com beginning at 10:15am. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved into the Beaver Dam Veterans Center on Beichl Avenue.
