Beaver Dam Legion Donates To Gold Star Memorial Trail Fund

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Legion Post 146 made a recent donation to the Friends of Dodge County Parks Gold Star Memorial Trail Fund. The organization issued a $4,000 check with its members passing a unanimous motion for continuing to fund the Gold Star Memorial Trail Project.

The 28-mile paved bike and pedestrian trail was initiated to honor the memory of fallen service members of Wisconsin. Once the proposed trail is complete, it will stretch from the city of Mayville to Beaver Dam. There will also be trail links to the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area, the Wild Goose State Trail, and the Nitschke Mounds County Park.

The project is broken up into five phases, with the focus currently on phase three grant writing. Phase 2b construction is anticipated to start in 2024-2025. Phase three work is slated to start in 2026-2027, pending grant awarding and funding.

Trail benefits include safer biking and hiking transportation between Dodge County communities and enhanced economic development as a regional tourism resource.
