7/28/17 – Ribbon was cut yesterday afternoon on the newest Blue Zones Project-approved restaurant in Dodge County. The Beaver Dam Community Hospital Café achieved the designation for using fresh produce from Two Good Farms in Columbus, serving fruits and vegetables as default side dishes, and offering fruit-infused water every day as a beverage option. Blue Zones Organization Lead Keith Hill says it is important for hospitals to have healthy food choices. He says having the availability of on-site healthy, nutritious, and attractive food is an incredibly important part of a hospital program. Beaver Dam Hospital’s Director of Food Services Jim Feil says he wanted to keep wellness consistent for patients between doctors, nutritionists, rehab, and café visits. The Blue Zones initiative brings together local volunteers with health experts from around the country to implement a series of strategies focused on healthy, active living and is designed to give people a supportive nudge toward eating better and moving more naturally.
