(BEAVER DAM) People who’ve shaped classrooms, supported students, and strengthened the Beaver Dam community are being recognized this year with the district’s top honors.
The Beaver Dam Unified School District has named its 2025 Wall of Fame award recipients, highlighting one standout graduate and two longtime supporters of local schools.

Russ Kottke, a 1974 Beaver Dam High School graduate, will receive the Outstanding Alumni award. Kottke built his life around farming and public service, but those who know him say his real impact shows up in the way he brings people together.
He has served on the Trenton Town Board, supported youth agriculture programs, and spent decades promoting education through groups like the Beaver Dam Agribusiness Association and the Dodge County Dairy Promotion Committee. His work has also touched major community projects, from local government buildings to youth programs like 4-H and the county fair.
District leaders say Kottke’s steady, collaborative leadership has made a lasting difference for both students and the broader community.

The district is also recognizing Gary Spielman as its Friend of Education. Spielman spent 33 years on the Board of Education and remained a regular presence in classrooms long after his tenure, staying connected with students and teachers.
That kind of consistency matters, school leaders say, because it shows students their community is invested in their success.
The Beaver Dam Area Community Theater is also being honored as a Friend of Education for its work with students. The organization offers hands-on opportunities through children’s theater, chorus programs, workshops, and scholarships — helping young people build confidence and communication skills both on stage and off.
