Beaver Dam Burglary Leads to Arrests in Ozaukee County

(BEAVER DAM) A burglary that left a Beaver Dam home missing cash and jewelry ended hours later with four people in custody after a tense overnight standoff more than 50 miles away in Ozaukee County.

The Ozaukee County Sheriffโ€™s Office said deputies were alerted late Tuesday night that a black Dodge Durango with Nebraska plates had been linked to a residential burglary earlier in the evening in Beaver Dam. Investigators believed the vehicle headed north after the break-in, which was reported around 11 p.m.

Just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy spotted a vehicle matching that description parked in the driveway of a home in the 500 block of Lake Shore Road in the Town of Grafton. Deputies set up a perimeter with help from surrounding agencies and ordered the occupants to come out.

Authorities said two people briefly ran from the back of the house but turned around after encountering officers and went back inside. A multi-jurisdictional special response team and a drone unit were called in as the standoff continued.

After additional commands, three people eventually came out of the home and were taken into custody without incident. A fourth person later exited and was also arrested. No injuries were reported.

A search of the residence turned up evidence directly tied to the Beaver Dam burglary, according to the sheriffโ€™s office. Investigators later learned the home was a short-term vacation rental that had been booked by the suspects.

All four are being held in the Ozaukee County Jail while prosecutors review potential charges that could include possession of stolen property, criminal damage to property and failure to comply with law enforcement orders. Authorities said additional charges are possible as investigators work with the Beaver Dam Police Department and look into other potential burglaries.
