The Beaver Dam boys hockey team (Overall: 12-7-1, Badger North: 5-3-1) hosts Baraboo/Portage (Overall: 11-10-1, Badger North: 3-5-1) tonight in their conference finale at the Family Center. The Golden Beavers come into this one on a three-game win streak and currently sit in 3rd place in the Badger North, just one point behind 2nd place Sauk Prairie. Waunakee has clinched the league championship.
Beaver Dam junior Riley VanderHoeven sits on top of the scoresheet with 52 points (29G, 23A). VanderHoeven is just five points away from breaking the school’s single season scoring mark of 56 which was set by Nick Sirota in the 2001-02 season. Senior Ben Cremers has 46 points (21G, 25A), senior Dan Smolen 38 (23G, 15A) and junior Ian Conlin 31 (11G, 20A) all have topped 30 points this season. Senior defenseman Dalton Jones has 23 points (9G, 14A) from the Blue Line this season.
Head coach Jose Matamoros says that one of the big reasons for his teams success this season has been the play of his goalie combo of Kirk Davis and Noah Banes. He says both have been solid this season and its hard to decide to who start each night.
Beaver Dam and Baraboo/Portage played to a 3-3 draw back on January 28th in Baraboo. The T-Birds Josh Beale tied the game with a goal at 16:42 of the 3rd period. The Golden Beaver’s Riley VanderHoeven had a hat trick in the match while Baraboo/Portage’s Cameron Logan scored a pair of goals.
They will drop the puck at 7pm tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45pm on 1430 WBEV.
