Beaver Dam Area Orchestra Plans Dual Peformances

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Area Orchestra will once again be having their annual Christmas concert this weekend. There will be two shows tomorrow (Saturday) at the Beaver Dam High School auditorium. One show will be at 5pm and the other performance at 7pm. The first is referred to as a โ€˜family concertโ€™ and will be an abbreviated version of the main performance. That show will feature the One Voice Childrenโ€™s choir. Music director Erin Ebersol gives a preview of what the children will be singing.
โ€œWeโ€™re doing two pieces with them, but only at the 5 oโ€™clock program,โ€ said Ebersol โ€œSo, at the 5 oโ€™clock program weโ€™re doing โ€˜The Little Drummer Boy.โ€™ Thatโ€™s a very familiar tune for everybody, but itโ€™s a nice little string orchestra arrangement that theyโ€™ll be singing. The second song that theyโ€™re doing is a medley of Christmas memories and very familiar childrenโ€™s songs.โ€
Songs in the Christmas medley include โ€œFrosty the Snowmanโ€, โ€œSanta Claus is Coming to Town,โ€ โ€œHere Comes Santa Claus,โ€ and โ€œHave Yourself a Very Little Christmas.โ€ The medley will also be played at the 7pm performance but will act as an audience sing along. Both shows will also feature something new for the orchestra: a handbell solo.
โ€œFor this particular concert, we will also have a handbell soloist, which brings its own set of challenges, but what an opportunity,โ€™ Ebersol explains, โ€œShe is extremely talented. Virginia Pollack is her name, and sheโ€™s gonna be playing. So, sheโ€™ll have her entire setup of handbells on tables in the front of the orchestra.โ€
There is no cost to get in the doors, but contributions are appreciated to help fund future performances. This show is part of the three concert season that occurs each year. The next performance after tonight is the spring concert in April.
