(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Unified School District is working with the Chamber of Commerce and Dodge County for new and expanded youth career exploration programs. The focus is now engaging middle schoolers in more career-based programs, as well as continuing engagement for high schoolers.
District Superintendent Mark DiStefano joined us on Let’s Talk to explain. “We now have a program, and a partnership with the chamber.” DiStefano said. “And with the county to afford our students at the middle school an opportunity to engage in career exploration. And we bring in experts, we bring in employers, we bring in people, leaders, business folks, people from different industries to come in and engage with our kids.”
The superintendent added that this is an important step for the middle level of education to “find purpose.” In thanks to efforts over the last few years, DiStefano believes there are many strong employer partners for youth apprenticeships, and future employment programs. In addition to this, the BDUSD Formalized a partnership with GPS Ed.
GPS Ed is a “work-based learning” program. One of the host sites will be here in Beaver Dam. A cohort of upper-class students will be able to experience educational learning at an actual work site. After that, they will then be able to go into the work site in the afternoon. Click HERE to find out more about these programs and additional information for the BDUSD.
