BDUSD Receives Update On Graduation Pathways

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam School Board received an update on Graduation Pathways, specifically the development of a program for at-risk students. The program would be open, but not exclusive to at-risk students in grades 11 and 12. Director of Teaching and Learning Rob Meyer says students in this program would receive an off-site, half day competency based education.

โ€œThey would work at their own pace and meet our graduation requirements through demonstrating competency,โ€ says Meyer. โ€œSo, they would be getting all of their core instruction we need them to.โ€

Meyer says the students would spend the other half of the day working with a mentor and develop a youth apprenticeship in the studentโ€™s area of interest. He adds the students have an advantage by working with a potential partner.

โ€œThis partner has extensive experience in doing this for over 25 years, and has had a lot of success.โ€

The director of teaching and learning says that this partner will also allow students to remain enrolled at the high school. Implementation of this program could be as soon as the 2024-2025 school year.
