(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam School District has announced the 2024 Wall of Fame Award recipients. James Campbell has been selected as the Outstanding Alumni. The award honors a district graduate for their exceptional accomplishments.
A 1980 graduate of Beaver Dam High School, Campbell wrote for Rolling Stone magazine and provided articles as a free-lance author to National Geographic, Audubon, Outside, and Field and Stream.
He has also written a number of award-winning and acclaimed books including The Final Frontiersman, The Ghost Mountain Boys, The Color of War, and Braving It. Campbell’s The Final Frontiersman was the inspiration for the Discovery series The Last Alaskans.
The Friends of Education Award is going to Chuck and Jeanne Stangl. The award recognizes individuals who have given distinguished service to the district and its students. The Stangls’ are strong advocates for children and their involvement in community organizations and activities.
They coordinate the National Night Out event, help fundraise for the Beaver Dam Scholarship Foundation, and volunteer with the Playground Movement where they also serve as board members.
Award plaques will be permanently displayed on the high school’s Wall of Fame in the common’s area.
