BDHS Football Staying Active This Fall

Despite having their season pushed back to next March because of COVID-19 protocols the Beaver Dam High School football team continues to work hard in preparation for a spring schedule.

Head coach Brock Linde tells DailyDodge.com that his team has been doing what they can to get their football fix despite not running a normal fall season because of  coronavirus health restrictions.  He says that his players have been doing extra film study, working hard in the weight room, working through contact days and even going to a few games where local health regulations allow.

The WIAA granted 15 contact days for the fall high contact sports moved to the spring and BDHS is taking advantage of those.  Linde says his team plans on getting out on the practice field every Tuesday and Thursday until the weather gets dicey and then use the rest as meeting time during the winter months.  They split the freshman and sophomores away from juniors and seniors during the contact days to keep numbers low.   Within those groups, Linde says they break up by position so groups are no more than 10 to keep social distancing and follow health guidelines.  Overall Linde feels the work they have been getting in this fall has been productive.

Beaver Dam Youth Football has also been able to schedule some workouts for kids in grades three through eight that focus on skills and drills.  Linde says there was community interest in finding a way to get the younger kids some activity this fall and he was happy that the BDYFB Board of Directors was able to find a way to do that safely.

One other thing people may notice when they travel by Derleth Field on the Campus of BDHS is the new press box and home side bleachers.  They needed to be replaced after at stormed destroyed the previous structure last summer.  Linde says the new press box will have more space the previous and it will also include some storage below the bleacher area.

If all goes as planned Beaver Dam can start football practice on March 8th, 2021 and their first game in the spring season would be on Friday, March 26th at Janesville Parker.
