The Beaver Dam High School Bowling teams made the trek to Wausau on Sunday for the Weston Winter Classic held at Dale’s Weston Lanes. This was the third year for the non-district tournament competition in which some of the state’s best teams are in attendance. The tournament consists of 4 individual games for each of the 5 person rostered teams. After those qualifying games the field is then cut to the top 8 out of 17 boys teams for a seeded double elimination match play. The girls division seeds each of the 4 teams in attendance.
The Beaver boys held steady the first 3 games of qualifying until a big game 4 catapulted them into the 6th seed for match play. The boys knocked off the #3 seed Merrill 657-594 before being knocked out by losses to Wittenberg and Bayport. The boys were led in qualifying by junior Adam Paul who finished 3rd to earn himself a spot on the All Tournament Team. The ATT consists of the top five boys and top five girls throughout the qualifying round.

The Beaver girls finished up the qualifying round in 3rd place before going into the championship round with a 2-0 record in match play. The girls beat Merrill in round 1 657-594. Match 2 against Amherst was a thriller coming down to the final game with the Beavers advancing 595-578. As the only undefeated team in match play the Beavers faced a 1-1 DC Everest team who had to beat them in 2-4 game total pinfall matches in order to be crowned champions. Match 1 was a lopsided loss 539-664. With one match to go and a lane pair change, the Beavers still had life. They put up a valiant effort after falling the first 2 games. The Beaver girls rallied to beat DC the final two games but could not overcome the deficit from the first two games, losing the match and the title 594-610.
The Beavers look to this Sunday for a home meet at Tower Lanes at 10am to close out the season. The Girls are 1/2 game out of winning the district crown and can do so with a highly anticipated match against the Lomira girls in the position round.
