(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Fire Department recently received a grant from a new business that is coming to the city. The Generac Foundation has awarded the department $2,500. Fire Chief Michael Wesle explains what the grant dollars will be used for.
โWeโre actually in the process of getting a new ladder truck next yearโฆso, thatโs something weโre really excited about but thereโs always hidden costs,โ says Wesle. โAnd one of those hidden costs is actually equipping the new ladder truckโฆand so [Generac] recently gave us a grantโฆand thatโs going to be used to buy some rescue saws for the new aerial truck.
Currently, the department is working with saws that are more than 15 years old. Wesle says the grant will allow his department to purchase multiple rescue saws which will improve reliability and efficiency on the fireground.
โThe type of saws that Generac has made a donation to are K-12 sawsโฆtheyโre circular sawsโฆtheyโre gas powered,โ says Wesle. โWeโll have two equipped on that aerial truckโฆso one will have a wood blade and then oneโs going to have a blade thatโll work on metal and other materials.โ
Wesle notes that the Generac Foundation is committed to making meaningful impacts and generating goodness that powers possibilities and strengthens communities where company employees live and work. He adds that without their contribution, this project would not have been possible.
