(BEAVER DAM) The Beaver Dam Fire Department is aiming to make falls less common in local households. The agency is hosting a Rugs for Mugs event on September 23rd at the Park Avenue McDonald’s from 8am to 10:30am.
To reduce trip hazards and prevent falls for seniors, those who bring in a rug will receive a custom Beaver Dam Fire Department mug along with free coffee.
Fire Captain John Jatczak says about 25-percent of their call volume is due to falls.
“[In] 2024, we responded to over 650 calls for elderly patients falling…most of those are in the home,” says Jatczak. “Some of those causes are related environmental issues…whether they’re trying to get in and out of the tub…go to the bathroom…sometimes they trip over rugs which is part of the reason we’re trying to get those rugs.”
The event, which is part of the department’s broader fall prevention campaign, is open to all Dodge County residents.
