(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre recently awarded their Jerome H. Kamps Memorial Award. Beaver Dam High School graduate Kelsey Saniter was the 2021 recipient. To qualify for the $500 annual award sponsored by the Kamps family, the recipient must be a graduating senior from Beaver Dam High School, Wayland Academy, or a high school from the surrounding area, who is pursuing post-graduation education. This fall, Saniter will be attending UW-Eau Claire where she will pursue a degree in health care. In selecting the recipient, a committee of theater representatives evaluates the candidates’ essays and theater experiences with a point system. Committee Chair Annette Kamps said this year’s four applicants were all impressive. She says the committee was pleased the essays reflect the impact the theater has had on them and their appreciation for its inclusive sense of community. The award is in memory of Jerome H. Kamps, a co-founder and charter member of BDACT and a dedicated art teacher at the Beaver Dam High School for thirty-four years.
