(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Fire Department is hosting its 20th annual food drive at Food Pride and Piggly Wiggly.
The operation, marked as one of the largest single-day giving events in Dodge County, will be going on today from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The contributions will go to the food pantry in the back of the Saint Vincent de Paul building. Of the 325 families the food pantry serves, 80-85% of them reside in Beaver Dam.
Lieutenant Nick Smith said that what was once an idea of selflessness has now turned into a community staple two decades later.
“Economically, the need has increased over time, and we’re very proud of the event that we created,” Smith said. “It does serve a lot of people in the community.”
This means that any contribution can directly help others in the Dodge County area.
There is a heavy preference for non-perishable foods, and monetary donations are also accepted.
On top of the usual acts of gathering donations during the holiday season, there is expected to be a fire truck or ambulance on site for kids to tour and take pictures with (weather permitting).
