WIAA Division Two Soccer Regional Final
Nicolet 5 Beaver Dam 1
“ This was a great soccer match to be a part of last night. The final score does not reflect how close the match really was. Nicolet scored in the 20th and 29th minutes to take a 2-0 lead at the half. The guys responded by scoring in the 43 rd minute on a goal by JR Guerrero on a rebound. The game went back and forth for the next 30 minutes until Nicolet was able to score 3 goals in a 6 minute stretch late in the match that secured the win.
This match was played with a high level of intensity from the opening kick off all the way until the 80th minute. I am very proud of how the team played tonight against a team that had only 2 losses on the season and ranked #3 in division 2. We were not intimidated by this and they showed themselves that they can play with the top level teams in our division.
We played both of our goalkeepers tonight and they both played very well. Carson Franke played in the first half and had 6 saves. Avery Ollanketo played the 2nd half and had 5 saves. These guys kept us in the game and gave us an opportunity to stay in the match. Both of these players worked hard this season and pushed each other to become better goalkeepers.
I am very proud of all of our seniors this season as they all contributed to the team and will leave a lasting impression on this team. Our seniors are Adam Meyer (Captain), Riley VanPembrook (Captain), Luis Hernandez, Sigi Rodriguez, Rolando Trevino, Sayers Van Dusen and Aiden Warmka. This group of players battled through their high school career having to play through Covid which had them play the sophomore and junior seasons both in a 6 month period. They had a very good senior season and will leave the program in a good place moving forward. Our overall season record this season is 10-7-3.” – Golden Beavers Coach Dave Elgersma
