(Beaver Dam) The national champion University of Wisconsin women’s volleyball team will play UW-Green Bay tonight at the BDHS Fieldhouse in a spring exhibition match. Head coach Kelly Sheffield told DailyDodge.com that with Badgers selling out every home match at the UW-Fieldhouse and a huge fan base, they’ve talked about scheduling neutral site spring games for a while now.
“The philosophy is we have so many fans that come to the fieldhouse where there are traveling, one, two, three hours for each game.” Sheffield said. “This isn’t the University of Madison or the University of Dane County, it’s the University of Wisconsin. It’s the entire state. It’s something we’ve talked about doing and we just got off our rear ends and just decided to make it happen.”
Sheffield added that fans coming to tonight’s game will see a minimum of four 25-point sets regardless of how the first three end up. If the Badgers and Phoenix split the first two, they would play a fifth.
The match starts at 7:30pm with the doors opening at 6:30pm All the tickets for tonight’s event have been distributed, so there will be none available at the door.
Wisconsin will also face Marquette in an exhibition match on April 10th at Mukwonago High School to go along with a home match at the UW-Fieldhouse Illinois Chicago on April 2nd and a match with Northern, Iowa in Dubuque on April 15th.
