Badger Honor Flight Sign-Up List Remains Robust

(Beaver Dam) Badger Honor Flight is inviting veterans to sign up for their upcoming flights to the nation’s capital. The Madison-based hub of the national Honor Flight network brings veterans on a one-day trip to our nation’s capital to tour monuments dedicated to their service. Organizer Jim Bublitz says those interested can go online and fill out an application form.

“There’s a tab up there that says, ‘Veteran Signup,” says Bublitz. “It’s right there, it sends it right in once you fill it in. You’ll be notified that we got it and what number on the [waiting] list you’ll be.”

Bublitz says the waiting list is at about 1,200 veterans right now and each flight takes around 90 to 100. The organization is actively flying veterans from World War II, Korean War Era, and the Vietnam War Era. Priority is given in chronological order of conflicts, but Bublitz notes that exceptions are made for terminally ill or ‘Their Last Chance’ veterans.

“It’s called TLC and what we do is we move them to the front of the line…we get a verification on the medical and we’re more than happy to do that,” says Bublitz.

Then next flight is on April 8th and that trip will mark Badger Honor Flights’ four-thousandth veteran served. The other flights will be May 6th and May 20th.
