Arthur “Art” Rettschlag

Arthur R. “Art” Rettschlag, a man of remarkable dedication and quiet strength, passed away peacefully at home on December 30, 2024, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, at the age of 82. Born on June 28, 1942, Art lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

On July 6, 1963, Art married the love of his life, Sandra L. Meister. Together they built a life filled with shared joys and cherished memories over their six decades of marriage. A devoted husband, father to Lisa (Craig) and Michelle, grandfather to Bradley, Nathan, Jessica, Lukas (Rosa), Kadon, and Aubrey, and great-grandfather to two beloved little ones—his family was his greatest pride.

Art’s hands were never idle; he thrived on staying busy. As co-owner of Matlin’s Furniture Store and later during his 18 years at Countryside Automotive, he poured his energy into every task with precision and care. He retired only upon reaching his milestone 80th birthday—a testament to his tireless spirit.

A proud Mason for 60 years, Art achieved the distinction of Master Mason and the honor of becoming a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason. His dedication to this brotherhood reflected his values of integrity and service. He also served as a long-time ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce and was an active Beaver Dam Exchange Club member.

In moments away from work or service commitments, Art found peace in nature—hunting in quiet woods or casting a line into tranquil waters—and treasured time spent with loved ones at his cottage in Door County. Known for his perfectionism and resourcefulness, there was nothing he couldn’t master once he set his mind to it.

Preceded in death by his parents Arthur Sr. and Doris; siblings Donald and Judith; Art is survived by Sandy; daughters Lisa (Craig) and Michelle; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth (Carol); sister-in-law Judy; nephews Andrew (Sasha) and Matthew; niece Andrea; as well as many who held him dear.

May Art’s legacy of diligence and love inspire all who knew him.
