Arrest Made In Waupun Correctional Overdose Death

(Waupun) Dodge County authorities have made an arrest in an overdose death of a Waupun Correctional Institution inmate. Janelle Hill of Madison was taken into custody Thursday and is facing a felony charge of First-Degree Reckless Homicide.

The charge stems from an investigation that started in June of 2022, when an inmate at the Waupun prison died from a drug overdose. Following an autopsy, latex ballons were recovered from the victim that contained a suspected mixture of cocaine and fentanyl.

Authorities say these balloons were delivered to the victim from the 37-year-old the day before his death during a visit. They add that the balloons are believed to have become compromised while in the victimโ€™s body causing his death from drug toxicity.
