Armed Man Shot, Killed in Columbia County Standoff

(TOWN OF WEST POINT – WRN) A fatal shooting involving law enforcement in south-central Wisconsin occurred Wednesday night.

Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating a possible hit-and-run crash and tried to contact a 37-year-old suspect. The man allegedly exited a home 45 minutes after officers arrived, armed with a long gun aimed at the deputies. Four of them fired at and shot the armed man, who was moved by EMS to another location and died despite life-saving measures.

The gun used was recovered at the scene. No deputies were injured. The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation of the incident, with the deputies involved placed on administrative assignment.
