(BEAVER DAM) Residency is an issue in the race for Beaver Dam Common Council District 12. At a candidate forum Thursday, incumbent Zach Zopp suggested challenger Paul Toellner does not live in the downtown district he seeks to represent, but near the Beaver Dam Country Club instead.
โSo youโre telling the residents that you moved out of your half-million-dollar, three-acre estate?โ I mean, so you think people believe that?โ asked Zopp.
Toellner said he is a lifelong area resident, and that he has owned a building in the 12th district with a loft apartment on the second floor since 2022.
โMy residence is 110 ยฝ Front St. And ifย youโdย like to continue following me, taking pictures of my houses, my car โ that is your right.โ
Toellner told Daily Dodge that he moved into that apartment in February.
Toellner said Friday that Zopp challenged his eligibility to run in District 12, and that the City Clerk’s office subsequently ruled in Toellner’s favor.
Thursdayโs candidate forum was sponsored by the Beaver Dam Chamber and Visitors Bureau and Good Karma Brands. The election is April 7.
