Mayville Heading Back To State…C-Bus Falls Short

The Mayville High School football team is heading back to the WIAA Division Five State Championship Game after a 27-15 win over Lake Country Lutheran at Slinger on Friday night.    Mayville trailed 15-14 heading to the 4th quarter but touchdown runs by Joe Promersburger and Emerson Mittelstadt send them back to the state title game.  Landen Baker ran for 211 and a touchdown n the win.    The Cardinals will face Northwestern on Thursday at 4pm in the D5 State Championship.  Northwestern advanced with a 22-13 win over three time defending state champion Stratford.   This is the 7th time Mayville has qualified for the State Championship Game.  They were most recently runner-up in 2021 and 2022.    They won the Division Four State Championship in 1994.

The Columbus football team’s dream of returning to the state championship game came to an end with a 35-25 loss to Little Chute in a Division Four State Semifinal on Friday night at Kewaskum. The Cardinals fell behind 15-0 after the first quarter and trailed 29-7 at the half, but couldn’t get closer than 10 points.  The Cardinals season ends at 11-2.   Little Chute will face Winneconne on Thursday night in the D4 State Championship Game.
