(Juneau) A Dodge County Sheriff’s Office squad car was struck by a passing vehicle during a traffic stop yesterday (Thursday) morning. The deputy was seated in the squad car doing paperwork on County Highway E between Highway J and Highway 26 with the emergency lights activated. A passing motorist struck the driver’s side of the squad car, causing damage to the lower half of the vehicle, before striking the rear of the pickup truck that had been stopped for the initial traffic violation. No one was seriously injured in the crash. 

(Juneau) The Dodge County Board heard the results of their 2023 audit report at their meeting this week. Andrea Jansen, a partner with Baker Tilly – a forensic accounting firm, says the county received an unmodified opinion which is similar to what they have issued in the past. She adds that this is also known as a clean audit opinion and it’s the highest level of assurance they are able to give. The audit report comes as the Dodge County Board begins ramping up budget talks. The 2025 budget is slated for adoption in November. 

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Noon Kiwanis Sweet Corn Sale gets underway at 9am Saturday in the Beaver Dam High School Parking Lot. Each bag of cut corn contains about four pounds at $5 per bag. Those interested will not have to leave their cars, thanks to the drive-up service provided.

(Juneau) Area residents are invited to participate in the Dodge County Clean Sweep program tomorrow (Saturday). It is taking place at the Dodge County Highway Shop located at N8856 County Highway A in Beaver Dam from 8am until noon. The Clean Sweep program provides the public with the opportunity to safely and legally dispose of unwanted household products, chemicals, and pesticides.

(Columbus) The Columbus Area Historical Society is hosting an open house tomorrow (Saturday). The event runs from 10am to 1pm at the Historic Bellack Building in downtown Columbus. The George Hasey Popcorn Wagon will be serving popcorn outside the building along with light refreshments being served indoors as visitors can see the future home of the Columbus Area Historical Society Museum.  

(Watertown) The Battle of the Badges will be taking place on Sunday at Riverside Park in Watertown. The event is a softball game between the city’s Fire Department and Police Department. Fire Chief Tanya Reynen says she will not be playing but has volunteered along with Police Chief Dave Brower to be dunk tank specialists and the managers. She adds there will be more than just a softball game including entertainment between the innings and police and fire vehicles on hand to tour. 

(Chicago) Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson talked about infrastructure during a brief appearance this week at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. He discussed a revitalized neighborhood that is making a comeback under the Biden-Harris administration. – WRN
