(Madison) Mark Born announced yesterday (Monday) that he is seeking reelection to the Wisconsin State Assembly. The Beaver Dam Republican is serving his sixth term in the Assembly, currently representing the 39th District. Due to new legislative maps, if reelected to the seat, Born would represent the 37th Assembly District. Born, who is co-chair of the Joint Finance Committee, says the new legislative maps will bring a new district number and some changes to the areas he has historically represented. He adds that while losing parts of Dodge County he had represented for years is difficult, he is excited to be adding new communities such as Waupun, Randolph, and Fox Lake.

(Watertown) Progress is being made on plans to construct a new fire station in the city of Watertown. The cityโ€™s Public Works Commission and Finance Committee recently approved entering into contracts to begin work on the facility. Mayor Emily McFarland says this is a profound milestone for the community and for generations of Watertown residents to come.

(Columbus) The disposal of a 2019 Ford Interceptor police car was discussed at a recent committee of the whole meeting. The car was supposed to be used as a training vehicle but started having mechanical problems which eventually led to a diagnosis of transmission issues. Chief Dennis Weiner says it is not worth spending $5,000 to $6,000 on a training car. After some further discussion, the council decided to move the matter forward for a vote at the next regular council meeting on April 16th.       

(West Point) Columbia County authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash that killed several people in the town of West Point Sunday afternoon. Deputies and Lodi EMS arrived at the scene on Highway 60 near Reynolds Road just minutes after being notified of the head-on collision between a truck and a passenger car. The preliminary investigation showed that the truck was heading west on 60 and the passenger car was traveling east. The car crossed the centerline and struck the truck. There was one occupant in the truck and four in the passenger car, all were killed in the crash which remains under investigation.

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriffโ€™s Office is alerting the public of a scam making the rounds that uses their identity. Sheriffโ€™s officials say that someone is claiming to be from their office and are using the actual names of employees. They add that the scammers are also spoofing the phone number of their caller ID to make it seem like the call is legitimate. The public is reminded not to give our legal or personal information over the phone.

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Lions Club made a recent donation to an effort to upgrade the cityโ€™s pickleball courts. The organization gave a $1,000 check which project officials say reflects the Lions Clubโ€™s ongoing commitment to supporting recreational initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents. Fundraising recently reached the minimum goal of $400-thousand-dollars and the project is slated for completion by mid-summer.
