(Columbus) There was an emergency airplane landing Tuesday just outside the city of Columbus. The Columbia County dispatch center started receiving information about a plane that made an abrupt landing on Wendt Road just north of Bristol Road in the township of Columbus around 12:27pm.
Sheriff’s officials say the pilot was a student doing a solo flight when they began to experience engine problems, forcing them to land. They note that the pilot was skilled in their landing of the aircraft on the roadway, doing so without damage to any property or causing injury to themself or others.
Arrangements to remove the plane were made by the aircraft owner. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Columbus Police Department for responding to the scene as well as the Columbus Fire Department and LifeStar EMS.
