(Lewiston) A woman was killed when a tree fell on top of her in the Township of Lewiston Sunday afternoon. Columbia County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to County Highway O after a report that a tree had fallen on an off-road vehicle striking a female passenger around 3:40pm. Emergency personnel traversed field paths to get to the downed tree and upon arrival, found a large oak tree had fallen on the vehicle as the woman and her husband were mowing the path. The woman was transported back to a waiting ambulance. Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The husband sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Names of those involved are not being released at this time. Assisting at the scene were Portage Fire Department, Aspirus Medevac, the Wisconsin DNR, UW MedFlight, and the Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office.
