Wisconsin Residents Urged To Not Hire Door-to-Door Repair Crews

(Madison) The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection encourages property owners to seek contractors who can complete repairs to damaged property as soon as possible.

The organization says that property owners should be skeptical of the door-to-door repair crews who use aggressive and high pressure sales tactics to secure contracts after a storm.

They encourage consumers to ask for contractor recommendations through friends, neighbors, and insurance agents, and to never let a traveling repair crew enter their home and to agree to their offers without confirming they are permitted to operate in your area and get the contracts in writing.

Property owners with damage are encouraged to make a list and take photographs of damages, call municipal officials to find out if a contractor holds the proper permits for door-to-door sales, and obtain written contracts that specify exactly what work will be done, what materials will be used, a start and completion date, and warranty details.
