(Fond du Lac) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Friday that rural portion of the WIS 23 expansion project in Fond du Lac County begins Tuesday. Construction will take place between Seven Hills Road and the Fond du Lac/Sheboygan County line and is scheduled to finish in October of 2021. WIS 23 will remain open for the majority of work in this segment. Work includes the grading and paving of the additional lanes, grading and paving of an extension of the Old Plank Road Trail, a new interchange at County G, drainage culverts and storm sewer, westbound WIS 23 and Old Plank Road Trail structures over the Sheboygan River, a wetland mitigation site, and other incidental items. WIS 23 will remain open to one lane of traffic in each direction, expect four nighttime closures. County G will be closed and detoured for interchange construction from May 2020 to late summer 2021. All construction schedules are weather dependent.
